9 Langport Runners and run/walkers, ventured out in the sunshine on April Fool’s day. Roxane was a run/walker at Longrun Meadow and is just 2 away from her Park Run ton!. Although no PB were recorded there were some excellent performances. Liz topped the table with a massive score of 69%. Well done Liz! Sue & Martin also recorded high percentage scores in the sixties. Hazel and Amanda were the closest to a PB at Montacute missing it by seconds…
I ventured to Parke Park Run, (I would just call it Parke Run) which is in Bovey Tracey Devon and the bonus for me it was their Third Birthday and there was plenty of cake for the runners. Parke is a National Trust estate and is definitely one to seek out, but only if you like hills and mud. The elevation is 103 meters and you hit a steep muddy hill in the first K. The run goes through the woodlands and along the river and you weave across it over some charming little bridges. In fact three quarters of the race was running through mud and it is a tough course anyway. The race Directory said they have only had a broken bones in the their first three years.
The runners and the marshals were really friendly. After we finished a guy that passed me towards the end congratulated me on the run. I had passed him a couple of times, so I think he was keen to beat me. He was quite happy afterwards, I said I was saving myself for a half marathon the next day and did not want a sprint finish, although had he said ‘race yer’ I would have!
