This week 8 Langport Runners were at Montacute for the first pacer event of the year and 3 LR were up for the challenge of pacing the runners. Your humble narrator took the 25 min bib, which would mean pacing myself to a new course PB. Amanda Bigger took the 32 min & Shelly the 35 min bib.

Taking my pacing duties seriously I only had a moderate amount of Friday night booze and an early night (for a Friday at least!), which is not something that happens that often pre- parkrun for me. Montacute is not the easiest of runs to pace, as there is a fair amount of undulation. My plan was to run fairly even km splits after building in a little time in the bank for the last km. I kept a regular eye on my watch and after the hill I had built up enough time to ease off the pace, which allowed anyone running with me the chance for a little sprint to the line. I received a pat on the back from a chap who said he recorded his quickest time for some time while following me. Job done!

Amanda was 27 seconds over and Shelly 16 seconds under so we all did well. Only 1 out of the 20 pacers was bang on the money.

My KM splits were:

1 4:47.

2 4:57.

3 5:07.

4 4:45

5 5:18.

Total time 24 mins 56 secs

Jack and Amanda Perrin and myself recorded course PB.

At Shepton Mallet Brian ran for the first time and produced a table topping performance. Well done Brian! Martin had a run out with his son.
