The Race HQ is in a church hall so it is possible to meet indoors and leave track suits etc in the hall. The organisers charge for drinks after the race and don't provide free water as say YTRRC do at Yeovilton. Results are usually posted the same night!!
The event is well organised and the roads are open to traffic and pedestrians and runners are asked to stay on the pavement as far as possible. It all seems to work quite well. The race involves 5 laps in the centre of town. It seems good to me as a winter fitness check and to go for a bit of speed. It runs from Oct to March every month on a Wed evening at 7.30 pm. There are 1k and 2k junior races and its organised by Wells City Runners. There is a good atmosphere and I recommend it for Juniors and Seniors and Vets! Club results are shown on this web site.

I'll let Rudyard Kipling describe how I felt climbing the hill at 8k:
"If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you E
xcept the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'"
You'll be a runner my son!
In other words it was very hard for ordinary club runners of which there were many who had to walk several sections. But I would do it again after more hill training. More mundane comments should include the way the water station handed out ice cold bottles of water instead of the usual cups. Not very satisfactory.1500 runners trying to use portaloos is not a good experience but I suppose it is the only way. The weather was perfect and the run around the estate would be amazing if you could spare the time to look around. The figure of eight course was ideal for spectators. Very well organised car parking but it does pay to get there early to park and collect the timing chip. Also the marking of each kilometre was very clear and the signs indicating the route were good with plenty of marshals to keep the lions away so we didn't see any !! The end of the race should be organised better to allow runners to collect their medals, goodie bag, return chips and use the computer system to find out what time had been recorded. It was all crowded together for some inexplicable reason considering how much space there was. Finally it was my finest hour or nearly , 61 minutes in fact and I am going for under 60 min next time I find a flat course!

Oh, Oh,dear!, I ran this in 2004 & due to the appalling behaviour of the large contingent of pupils from the local well known public school and the poorly organised timing of the finishing times where todlers, juiniors,5k & senior(10k)all where competing for the finish line at the same time I said I would never run this event again.
However the race now forms part of the Somerset Series & for that reason I again entered. Nothing has changed. The public school runners still think swearing at the top of their voices , deliberate obstruction of other competitors & cheating by taking short cuts is appropriate. Organisation now puts the todlers starting earlier, fine, but as they finish across the senior start line. The 10k start was delayed by 20mins until the last mum & child crossed the line, meanwhile everyone stripped down & warmed up for the 11.10 start was left standing in the rain for 20 mins. The finish line scaffolding shutes was still being erected when the first finishers appeared!
I enter around 30-40 races a year across the south of the UK all have some positives, some a few negatives, only Glastonbury ticks all the boxes for what you don,t want to experience at what is meant to be a serious race.
